Betty Murray

October 1, 1943 — May 29, 2021

Betty Sue Wilkerson Murray, 77, vacated her riverfront home on the great Satilla River near Jeffersonton to make her new eternal home with her savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday May 29, 2021.  She had lived on the river since 1970.  Betty was the fourth child of Eunice Mae Merritt and J.C. Odell Wilkerson.  She was educated in the schools of Glynn County and graduated early to become the wife and domestic engineer for Herbert Murray in 1960.  She enjoyed metal detecting, gardening, just being outdoors and especially fishing on all days that ended in “Y”.  She had a laugh that would take over a room.  You could always find her and her English bulldog, Lolla, aboard their pontoon boat at all the good fish drops from their home to Burnt Fort.  She was a member of St. Francis of Asissi Catholic Church in Folkston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother:  John Charles Wilkerson and a sister:  Mary Lou Landes.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years:  Patrick Herbert Murray, Sr.; 3-children:  Melissa Ann (Ray) Burnett, Patrick Herbert (Tina) Murray, Jr. and Michael Bruce Murray; 3-grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and a sister:  Clara Jean Roy.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2 at 10:30 AM at the Murray Family Cemetery with Father Jake Almeter officiating.

Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest registry at www.shepardfh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home, 526 Oakwood Street, Folkston, Georgia 31537.
