Doris Stokes Taylor passed away May 25, 2019 at the age of 83 after a long illness. She was a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. Doris had a successful career with Georgia Farm Bureau, retiring as an agent in 1988.
She was born June 11, 1935 in Moniac, Georgia to the late Dewey Stokes and the late Myrtle Batten Stokes Walker. Doris was married to Roy A. Taylor for 56 years until his death in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Stokes Conner and brother, Johnny Walker. She is survived by a son, Richard D. (Connie) Taylor; two daughters, Delores (Douglas) Gibson, and June (John) Pounds; seven grandchildren, Julie (Justin Williams) Gibson, Taylor (Libby) Gibson, Samantha (Wade) Mathison, Addie (Craig Head) Gibson, Buck (Liza) Taylor, Russ Gibson, and John (Jessica) Pounds, Jr.; and 10 great grandchildren, Macy Pounds, Molly Mathison, Garrison Head, Rhett Taylor, Chyna Carter, Piper Gibson, Roy Taylor Gibson, Walker Mathison, Darcy Kate Taylor, and Madeline Head. Doris is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Thelma Gowen, Geraldine Crowther, and Betty Jo Herrin; two brothers-in-law, Dewitt Conner and Travis (Jo) Taylor; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in Folkston at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 3:00 PM. A burial service will be held at Sardis Cemetery on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 9:00 AM.
