I am very sorry that Jackie has passed on to his eternal life. We had a good conversation last time I saw him about 4 years ago. I know his family and friends will miss him very much. I understand he was an outstanding volunteer at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The "older Okefenokee swampers" are rapidly disappearing from the scene. God's blessings to his family.

We send our deepest thoughts, prayers, and love, what an unforgettable day for so many, you get that call, someone may knock on your door, it never is easy for whoever learns of the death, the thing many dread, the one day you never want to know or face! Timing, there is never a good moment for this, for sure as God can part the sea, He can call your name, for you to go home to Him, the main issue, just always be ready, ready for that unforgettable moment, spiritually! There are usually no second chances when it
was done, it's done! What a huge void that will be felt by so many, Jackie, I would say, "Go rest high on that mountain", you have earned it for sure, catch up with all that has gone before you.May Gods love be spread around from all the lives you have touch and felt the kindness you spread, every where you went! God we ask for you to supply every need for this family in the days and months ahead, supply peace, grace, love as needed!

Jackie was a great guy. I'm so glad that I got aquatinted with him 8 years ago when visiting the Okefenokee Swamp with my son on his 8th grade Georgia trip. Jackie took me and my dad gator hunting in 2012 and 2016. Those nights out hunting with him will never be forgotten. He was a true southern gentleman and I considered him a friend.
The last night on the river the sky was so clear and the stars looked so close that you could almost touch them. We talked of Heaven and what it must be like somewhere up there among the galaxies. I sensed that he knew the Lord and I trust he is with him for eternity.
Rest In Peace my friend.

So sorry for your loss. Jackie and I had a lifetime of adventures while we owned the local newspaper and afterwards. I will always remember how he touched so many lives including my entire family and even today one of my grandson's. I have so many great memories with him hunting, fishing, gator hunting, raising our children (Jimmy, Jessica and Zach), going to see the Suns, and just hanging around together. He will truly be missed by Charlton County. I believe Charlton County never realized what a treasure he was to all. He worked behind the scenes more than anyone will ever know. God bless my friend and God bless his family.

Jackie Carter will always be fondly remembered for his many contributions - to family, community, and country. Jackie was a "one of a kind" person. If you were fortunate enough to know him, you never forgot him. He will be missed, and we will never be the same.....
For the family, I am so sorry for your loss. I can only hope that time and God will offer some lessening of the pain you feel. You can rest assured that Jackie is scouting the fields and running the waters in heaven, looking for the best spots to hunt and fish.
God's peace to all.
Terri

Carter family,

I would just like to say that I feel very privileged to have met Jackie. We were in your area for the West Mims Fire on an engine from Canon City, Colorado and the hospitality that he and his family showed us was beyond amazing. We had a great time listening to Jackie as he talked to us about his gator catching and the many encounters that he had as well as the time that he has spent in the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. He brought us to his house for a fantastic meal as well as gave us the privilege of pulling in a gator that he had recently caught. The meal that the family put in front of us, was a meal for a king and there are not enough words to show our appreciation. It was obvious that in Jackies' mind, he was on this earth to not only serve the community that he lived in, but his country and anybody that happened upon him. Thank you for your service Jackie! It was obvious to me that his family will carry on the legacy that Jackie left behind, there will be big shoes to fill. May the good lord be with each and everyone of the the family members as well as friends that lost a great man. Again I feel beyond blessed that I got the opportunity to meet Jackie and know that he will be missed dearly.
